That whole idea of Lincoln abandoning the MK naming system for actual names? Yeah, that appears to be in full swing.

The 2018 Lincoln Nautilus was revealed today at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, where it was announced as the replacement for the Lincoln MKX. The Nautilus joins the new Lincoln Navigator and Continental as representing the brand’s new face—and, with actual names, its new nomenclatural direction.

“With the introduction of Nautilus, Lincoln has a strong, distinctive portfolio with a common and recognizable identity,” said Lincoln Motor Company President Kumar Galhotra. “We’re excited to add Nautilus to our Lincoln family of luxury SUVs, along with a new name that better reflects the ideas and attitudes of our clients.”

Of course, the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus does more than change the name from the outgoing MKX. It wears Lincoln’s new signature grille, which was also added to the recently-revealed 2019 Lincoln MKC. The interior is also redesigned to accentuate modernity, comfort, and spaciousness, and it will be offered with amenities including standard SYNC 3 infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless charging pad, 22-way Ultra Comfort seats, and 13- and 19-speaker Revel audio systems.

The 2019 Lincoln Nautilus also sees a significant update under the hood with two available turbo engines: a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder and available 2.7-liter, the former delivering 245 horsepower and the latter delivering an estimated 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Both options are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and are standard with fuel-saving Auto Start-Stop technology.

In terms of safety tech, the Nautilus adds a lane-centering feature that works in conjunction with adaptive cruise control to maintain lane position with the help of radar and camera. It also debuts evasive steer assist, which uses radar and cameras to read the gap between the Nautilus and vehicles on the road ahead and, if necessary, helps to steer the vehicle out of the way of a potential collision. Other available advanced safety features include Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Information System, and lane-departure warning.

“The technology in this vehicle is thoughtful and purposeful,” said Galhotra. “We focused on bringing in innovative features to make each drive effortless for our clients.”

At the top of the Nautilus lineup will be the Lincoln Black Label offering, which is available with three interior themes: Challet, Thoroughbred, and the all-new Gala theme. Gala, said to be “inspired by the haute couture at New York’s Met Gala,” gets Carmine leather seating surfaces, Onyx leather complements, Alcantara headliner, and Nouveaux Armor aluminum accents.

The 2018 Lincoln Nautilus is set to arrive at dealerships by summer 2018.
