The Toyota 86 GRMN will be based on the concept car which debuted at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon

Last year, Toyota unveiled the GRMN 86 Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon. Now, the Japanese automaker is bringing that concept to life… but unfortunately, it’ll only be available in Toyota’s home country.

“But what exactly is the Toyota 86,” you might be asking. Here in the US, we know it better as the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ twins. But despite the fact that we do, in fact, have the mysterious Toyota 86 in our country (as do other markets), the GRMN version will be staying in Japan, and might never become available outside that market.

The Toyota 86 GRMN comes with plenty of upgrades, including a new front splitter, carbon fiber hood, plexiglass windows, and a large rear wing. These features improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics, making it faster than the production 86.

In addition, the 86 GRMN has 17-invh wheels and a tweaked suspension. It’s lost 100 pounds, which allows the car’s naturally aspirated 2.0 liter engine to pump out 213 horsepower and 160 lb-ft of torque, up from 197 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque in the regular production model.

Toyota will make just 100 of these cars. The selling price will be 6,580,000 yen, which is approximately $54,595.
