The Toyota Advanced Manufacturing Technician program will help students excel in their chosen field

Toyota has long been dedicated to the education of its workers, and now the automaker is starting things early by announcing a partnership with Alabama’s Calhoun Community College called the Toyota Advanced Manufacturing Technician program. The program is designed to give students hands-on learning that will help enhance their learning experience while giving students real-world job skills.

The program will educate Calhoun Community College students over five semesters, and will include work experience at local manufacturing facilities. Not only will this work experience create a more knowledgeable workforce, but students will earn upwards of $13.55 per hour that could help them graduate with less debt.

“’Skilled technician’ is currently the #1 unfilled job opening in the U.S. according to the National Association of Manufacturers. As technology increases, so does the need for skilled technicians at our facility. The AMT program will create and maintain a qualified pipeline of skilled technicians by preparing students to be fully job ready for a multi-skilled maintenance position at the end of a two year program,” commented Jim Bolte, president of Toyota Alabama. “This not only benefits Toyota, but helps to address the workforce needs of manufacturers regionally.”

Alabama marks the seventh state in which Toyota has established AMT programs. Currently, the programs have over 100 students enrolled, and that number is expected to rise significantly in the new school year. Students in the program will learn about electricity, mechanics, robotics, fabrication, fluid power, and problem solving. These subjects will help students develop numerous skills, including communication, diligence, initiative, professionalism, and attendance.

We wish all the students enrolled in the Toyota Advanced Manufacturing Technician program the best of luck as they prepare for the next step in their careers!
