Toyota Alabama Volunteers Help Revitalize Huntsville City Park

On September 27th, as part of National Public Lands Day (NPLD), over 100 Toyota Alabama volunteers took the time to plant trees, clear trails, build fences, and more, at Huntsville’s John Hunt Park. These volunteers were part of 175,000 individuals who donated their time in all 50 states to help beautify areas in need of some TLC as part of NPLD.

John Hunt Park is a 327-acre space located on an old airport. The park currently still has runways that planners hope to turn into a haven for families, with tree-lined walking, jogging, and biking paths; a splash park and children’s playground; picnic areas; green space; and tennis courts. In addition to providing over 100 volunteers, Toyota donated $10,000 to the revitalization of the park.

As a sponsor of NPLD for 16 years running, Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. has encouraged its employees each year to give their time to bettering their communities. This was the first year that Toyota Alabama organized volunteers from its own plant for NPLD.

Jim Bolte, president of Toyota Alabama, commented, “Giving back to the communities where our team members work and live is extremely important to Toyota. NPLD is a great opportunity for our team members to support an environmentally focused activity, which is also a priority for Toyota.”

For NPLD, Toyota also donated $27,000 to help make over Bicentennial Park in Princeton, Indiana, and 100 volunteers from Toyota Indiana donated their time to help smarten up their city.
