Toyota Announces Updates for Japanese Crown Sedan
Offered in Japan for an incredible 60 years, the Crown sedan has become somewhat of a legend in Toyota’s home country. In order to celebrate the beginning of the Crown’s seventh decade, Toyota has announced a major mid-cycle update that mostly affects the Athlete series and the Royal series models.
First off, the Athlete series now boasts a sporty mesh front grille, lower stance, bi-beam LED headlights, ring-shaped rear lamps, and a new color for turbo models called Prussia Blue. The car distances itself from others in the Crown family with its sporty stance and new 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo engine that sends power to the rear wheels.
Next up, the Royal series now has a thicker front bumper and more emphasized sense of depth, lending to a more sophisticated presence. Inside, the Crown Royal comes with a lattice patterned panel with wood-grain finish, and a black color scheme with brown accents.
All new Crown models will come with Toyota’s new ITS Connect technology, which uses vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication to help keep the road a safer place for drivers and pedestrians.
The new Crown models will be sold throughout Japan, with a combined monthly sales target of 3,700 units.
