Toyota Announces US Dream Car Art Contest Winners

Every year, Toyota holds the Dream Car Art Contest in which children and teens are invited to submit their most creative drawings of their “dream cars.” The contest, which is open for children ages 4– 15, ended on December 13th of 2014, and Toyota has just announced the US winners.

Nine winners were selected in all, and each will receive an iPad Mini and an award certificate. Judges had to pick the winners from a pool of 30 finalists, who in turn had been selected from a pool of 90 semi-finalists. These 90 semi-finalists were chosen by about 1,500 Toyota employees from across the nation. Judging was based on three criteria: uniqueness, execution of concept, and artistry.

“These are genuine works of art,” said actor and art collector Cheech Marin, who was one of the judges. “I can easily imagine these Dream Cars on the walls of a gallery or someone’s home. To see such talent coming from our nation’s children is truly an inspiration, and I look forward to seeing what these artists will create in the future.”

The three winners in the “under 8 years” category were six-year-old Jolina Chung, six-year-old Daniel Zhou, and six-year-old Emily Hu. The next category for the 8 – 11 year range also named three winners: 11-year-old Michael Zhou, 10-year-old Andrew Dong, and 11-year-old Katherine Zhao. Finally, the three 12 – 15 age range winners were 15-year-old Joanne Seung, 13-year-old Thomas Kwon, and 15-year-old Hongying Jiang. You can view these young artists’ work on Flickr.
