Yesterday, Sean Suggs, the VP of administration for Toyota Mississippi, and Rita Gentry, mayor of Blue Springs, Mississippi, together unveiled plans for the Toyota-Blue Springs Water Garden and Education Park. Construction on the park will be completed on September 20, 2014, marking Toyota’s National Public Lands Day volunteer event, in which 200 – 800 volunteers from Toyota Mississippi participate each year.

Plans for the Toyota-Blue Springs Water Garden and Education Park was announced yesterday.

“We thank the community of Blue Springs for the warm welcome shown to our team members and are pleased to give the town something in return,” said Suggs.

The Toyota-Blue Springs Water Garden and Education Park will include, among other features, a play structure for children, a pavilion, and a community garden. Suggs promises that there will be something for community members of all ages.

In total, material and labor donated to the construction of the park amounts to about $100,000. Toyota Mississippi will be financing the park, but it is also through generous donations from local suppliers, B&B Concrete Co., Inc., and MMC Materials, that the park will be possible. Each will be donating concrete for the pavilion area and for a sidewalk that surrounds the park.

“We are honored that Toyota asked us to partner with them on such a meaningful initiative,” said Mark Jarrett, B & B Concrete Co., Inc., sales manager. “We are happy to support a project that will have a tremendous impact on the Town of Blue Springs and improve residents’ overall quality of life.”

“We could not have asked for a better corporate and community partner and we are thrilled to work with Toyota on this project,” added Mayor Gentry. “This park will serve as a symbol of the wonderful relationship we share with Toyota and will be a safe community space that all our residents can enjoy. We have bright future together.”

It’s little surprise that Toyota has attached itself to a project so green in nature. The automaker, which accepted its tenth consecutive ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award from the EPA earlier this year, prides itself on its eco-friendliness. The Toyota-Blue Springs Water Garden and Education Park, in fact, will boast two green features that are in line with Toyota’s sustainability and conservation habits: compost bins and a water cistern that will reuse water and waste resources, and a beautiful garden of wildflowers that will support the Monarch Butterfly’s natural path of migration and will include information about butterflies for children who are eager to learn.

Suggs concluded, “I am privileged to work alongside our team members who share Toyota’s commitment to our planet and to the communities where they live, work and serve.”
