Toyota Corolla Nurburgring Edition Unveiled for Sale in Thailand
When you think of Nurburgring, you probably think of Formula One, and fast supercars like Ferraris and Maseratis. The last thing you probably think of is the Toyota Corolla. But starting today, you should, because the Japanese automaker just unveiled a Toyota Corolla Nurburgring Edition that will be available exclusively in the Thai market.
This unexpected special edition Corolla was designed to celebrate a seventh-place class finish for the Toyota Corolla Altis in the Nurburgring 24-hour endurance race last year. The Nurburgring edition was unveiled this week at the Bangkok Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale in Thailand on April 1st. (Side note: perhaps this is an April Fools’ Day joke?!)
The front-wheel-drive Corolla Nurburgring Edition is powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four engine which is good for 141 horsepower. It’s based on the Corolla Altis ESport edition, and adds a blacked-out grille, LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, an improved aerodynamics kit, and red stitching on its leather interior. Sounds to us like this car will look the part; but that 141-hp engine will limit those who are looking for a true performance sedan.
As odd as this special edition seems to us, we’re sure it’ll sell just fine in Thailand. Just look at the floating Thai people behind the Corollas! They seem pretty excited to get their hands on a Nurburgring edition Corolla, and we are frankly quite happy to let them have it and stick to our own special edition Corollas.
