It’s the beginning of the month, which means one thing in the automotive industry: the sales numbers are out! And Toyota Division sales in June were impressive enough to push the three brands collectively into the number one spot for the first six months of 2014. That’s right—if you drive a Toyota, a Scion, or a Lexus, you’re in good company, because a total of 1,165,607 units were sold to American drivers between January and June this year. That’s up 5.8 percent on a year-over-year basis! Toyota in particular was a superstar brand that helped push Toyota Division sales to the front of the line. 178,196 Toyota vehicles were sold in June alone, which was an 11 percent increase over June 2013. Toyota posted 1,026,918 sales for the first six months of 2014, thanks largely in part to the popularity of the Corolla and Camry sedans. Another Toyota June superstar was the Prius, which sold 18,649 total units during the month.

Lexus also reported a huge increase in sales both on a monthly and on a six-monthly basis. June sales totaled 23,518, which was up 10.1 percent on a raw-volume basis. So far in 2014, Lexus has sold 138,689 vehicles, which is an increase of around 17 percent year-over-year. Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager, said, ““Sales in the first half of 2014 indicate a steadily recovering industry, and we expect this pace to increase as we move into the second part of the year. In June, Camry and Corolla posted double-digit gains as passenger cars showed renewed strength industry-wide.” With the Camry facing a design overhaul for the 2015 model year, Toyota only expects its popularity to go up. And if the second six months of 2014 are as good for Toyota as they were for the first six months, we could be facing a record-breaking year all around.
