Toyota Donates $20,000 Toward Growing FIRST Robotics of Michigan

The Toyota Technical Center (TTC) has announced that it will supply FIRST Robotics of Michigan with $20,000 in grants toward their future endeavors. The $20,000 in grants will be divided among the Ann Arbor Huron River High School – A2 Geeks ($5,000), FIRST Robotics State Competition ($10,000), and Michigan Engineering Zone (MEZ) ($5,000). The money will go toward helping students pursuing their interests in robotics, which is a field of particular interest to automakers such as Toyota. The TTC, which calls Ann Arbor its home, has been Toyota’s go-to facility for more than 35 years when it comes to matters of engineering and R&D.
“At Toyota, we are committed to improving student’s education by supporting programs that not only offer training and technology but include a mentoring component as well,” said Kristen Tabar, VP of Technical Administration, TTC, at an award ceremony held March 15. “We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with the A2 Geeks-Huron River High School and MEZ through FIRST Robotics that share the same priorities.”

Tabar was present at a check presentation held during the Michigan/Minnesota hockey game March 15. Also on hand was TTC Vice President of Corporate Strategy Jeff Makarewicz, who joined Tabar in presenting a $5,000 grant to U of M engineering (MEZ) students Alissa Recker, Justin Lopas, Jenna Ross, and Executive Director of Student Affairs of the College of Engineering, Jeanne Murabito.
