Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) announced that it has made a donation of $10,500 and 20 laptop computers to the Black Males Working (BMW) Academy, which is a collaborative program among Fayette County, Ky. schools that aims to prepare young African-American males for college and emphasizes the importance of the fields of Math, Science, and Reading.

TMMK’s plant president, Wil James, presented the BMW with Toyota’s donation at the First Baptist Church Bracktown in Lexington on Monday.  Of the occasion, James said, “Like the academy, at Toyota, we’re focusing not only on what our customers need today, but also on what they’ll need tomorrow.  This program concentrates on what children need now – encouragement, accountability, mentors and experiences – so that they acquire the life skills needed to prepare them for success in the future. That’s something we’re proud to be a part of.”

The BMW Academy has 200 enrollees from the elementary, middle and high school levels, who participate in BMW Academy activities at various church campuses across Fayette County.

The TMMK, which began production in 1988, is the largest Toyota plant in North America and produces such vehicles as the Camry, Avalon, and Venza.  Since its founding, the TMMK says it has donated more than $44 million to charitable causes across Kentucky.
