Toyota Employees Clean Up for Public Lands Day
Last Saturday, volunteers across the country banded together to help make their communities cleaner places on Public Lands Day. As part of its commitment to the environment, Toyota encouraged employees to get outside and take part in some community projects as part of the special day.
In Mississippi, 700 Toyota plant employees headed out to Tombigbee State Park to assist with landscaping, cabin renovations, restoring the playground, building picnic tables, restoring the amphitheatre, restoring trail access throughout the park, and more. This marks the beginning of a five-year partnership between Toyota Mississippi and Tombigbee State Park.
“It’s a long-term partnership, and we’re going to be doing a lot of work,” Toyota Mississippi vice president Sean Suggs said. “Even though it’s only a few hours today, we’ll be back the next four years to continue working here. And if we see something that wasn’t scheduled that needs to be done, we’re going to do that too.”
Meanwhile, a few states away, Toyota Indiana employees headed to Evansville to lend their hand at cleaning up some local public parks. Over 120 employees worked at mulching, cleaning, planting, painting, and refurbishing benches at Evansville’s riverfront Sunrise Park. The employees also presented Evansville mayor Lloyd Winnecke with a $10,000 check to help fund the city’s parks department.
National Public Lands Day, which is sponsored by Toyota, occurs every September. In 2014, more the 3,900 Toyota employees did their part for their communities at more than 40 different sites.
