Toyota Mirai campaign

The 2016 Toyota Mirai

With the countdown on until October’s North American release of the Mirai fuel cell vehicle, Toyota is hitting the campaign trail hard with a video series called Fueled by Everything. This series highlights renewable sources of hydrogen fuel, and aims to improve customers’ understanding of just how this remarkable vehicle works.

So far, Toyota has released two videos in the series—Fueled by Bullsh*t, and Fueled by Oil Creek. The second video, Fueled by Oil Creek, which was released this week, takes place in Titusville, Pennsylvania—the setting of the first ever oil well in the US, and the “Birthplace of the Oil Industry.” The oil was discovered in the aptly named Oil Creek, which is the main setting for this video. In it, engineer Larry Moulthrop takes Titusville students to Oil Creek to collect water, which he then converts to hydrogen in order to power the Mirai. The video shows that process in order to give us a clearer idea of exactly how this technology works.

The 2016 Toyota Mirai will be available later this year at eight California dealerships, eventually spreading to dealerships on the East Coast as well. Until then, expect more videos in the Fueled by Everything series, as well as other campaigns to help with promoting Toyota’s first production fuel cell vehicle.
