Toyota Grants $100,000 to Kentucky Women Remembered Film Project

Willa Beatrice BrownJust in time for National Women’s History Month and the 50th anniversary of the Kentucky Commission on Women, Toyota has announced that it will be providing a $100,000 grant to the Kentucky Women Remembered film project, which will tell the story of 30 women who are each vital components of the state’s history.

The feature-length documentary will be promoted by the Kentucky Commission on Women and aired at conferences and events across the country. It is scheduled to feature such historically important figures as Verna Mae Slone (author), Willa Beatrice Brown (pioneering African-American aviator), and Martha Layne Collins (Kentucky’s first female governor).

“At Toyota, one of our main tenets is ‘respect for people.’  And, as part of that, we have a long history of supporting women both in and outside of the workplace,” said Wil James, president, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc, in a press release.  “The accounts of women from Kentucky’s history whose creativity, intellect and strength have impacted the Commonwealth should be readily available for all to see. We are honored to be supporting the Kentucky Women Remembered film project and its mission to celebrate the past as it empowers our younger women of Kentucky who represent our future leaders and innovators.”
