american red cross logoThis winter has been a strange one. California is being hit by heavy rain, Colorado is covered in multiple feet of snow, and tornadoes and flooding have hit areas of the Southeast. As a result, residents of states like Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Missouri are dealing with disastrous conditions which, in many cases, have rendered homes inhabitable. Luckily for these people, organizations like the American Red Cross exist to help them get back on their feet in the wake of disaster.

Since 2014, Toyota has been a member of the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program, and has been making annual donations of $250,000 to help prepare the organization to act quickly when needed. The Red Cross provides those hit by natural disasters with food, shelter, emotional support, and help with the recovery process.

“At Toyota, we know that when disaster strikes, every minute counts,” explained Latondra Newton, Group Vice President and Chief Social Innovation Officer, Toyota Motor North America. “That’s why we joined the Red Cross Disaster Responder Program to help ensure that vital support and services are at the ready when disasters happen. Our thoughts are with all those affected by these terrible events as they work to recover and rebuild.”

This year, affected areas include North Texas and the Dallas area, including Toyota’s future home of Plano. Toyota has also announced the sponsorship of a matching gift campaign, where team members’ donations will be matched by the company. These efforts have helped hundreds of Red Cross disaster workers open shelters, provide meals, distribute comfort kits and clean-up supplies, and help those affected plan their next steps.

If you’d like to donate to the cause, you can do so online at redcross.org, over the phone at 1-800-RED-CROSS, or by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 for a $10 donation.
