Another month has come and gone, and once more Toyota sales were led by light trucks. The automaker has been seeing much success as of late—likely due to falling gas prices—of its larger vehicles, and August was no exception. In fact, the Highlander and Tacoma both posted their best August sales ever since 2003—the former increasing more than 16%.

But August wasn’t as peachy for all Toyota models. The automaker sold a total of 190,894 units during the month, which was a 7.1% decrease on a daily selling rate basis. Despite these results, the automaker managed to move 93,575 light truck models, 37,592 Camrys, and 31,726 Corollas. The 4Runner posted an increase of more than 15%, reflecting the trend of consumers moving towards larger vehicles as of late.

The 2016 Toyota Tacoma will arrive at dealerships soon

“Consumer confidence is at its highest level since January, despite predicted slower August industry sales,” explained Bill Fay, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager. “For the Toyota Division, Tacoma and Highlander had their best sales month since 2003.”

September brings the beginning of sales for the much-anticipated 2016 Tacoma. With more and more consumers looking for mid-size trucks, Toyota hopes to steal buyers away from the likes of the Chevy Colorado—and given the Tacoma’s stats, it’s probable that the automaker will make a serious dent in the Colorado’s profits over the next few months.
