Toyota Highlander Hybrid Wins Green Fleet Vehicle of the Year Award
Yes, that’s a real thing.
If you’re like us, you probably keep up-to-date on all the latest awards in the automotive industry. So imagine our horror when we realized we’d dropped the ball on a particular important one—that of Green Fleet Vehicle of the Year award. This prestigious award is presented by Bobit Business Media, which publishes the highly-regarded trade magazines, Automotive Fleet and Green Fleet.
According to Automotive Fleet, the awards are designed to recognize “the most environmentally-friendly cars and trucks for fleet use.” Although fleet sales are often overlooked in favor of individual sales, they nonetheless make up a good percentage of sales for most automakers—Toyota being no exception.
The Highlander Hybrid proudly took home the Green Fleet Vehicle of the Year award, beating out the likes of the Ram 1500 Eco Diesel and the Ford Transit T150 Wagon FFV. When you consider that the Highlander Hybrid boasts a combined fuel economy rating of 28 mpg, it’s easy to see why the SUV was crowned the winner.
Mark Oldenburg is Toyota’s national fleet marketing, mobility, and strategic planning manager, and he accepted the award on behalf of the SUV. Oldenburg commented, “Toyota is honored to have the Highlander Hybrid recognized as the Green Fleet Truck of the Year. Highlander Hybrid receives an EPA combined mileage rating of 28 mpg – which is best-in-class for a three-row SUV – and all of the environmental benefits a hybrid provides for eco-minded families. Expanding hybrid technology to established models like the Highlander has allowed consumers and fleet managers to become more environmentally conscious in addition to saving money at the pump.”
The only question left to ask is this: who will take home the crown next year? We can hardly wait to find out.
