Toyota has been named the top mainstream brand for used car value in the annual Pre-Owned Value Awards by ALG, which named an impressive number of Toyota models as being among the best in their categories for two-to-five year depreciation.

ALG examined 28 mainstream and premium vehicle categories from the 2016 model year to determine which ones have will have the lowest depreciation from 2018 to 2021. Only brands with vehicles in at least four unique segments were considered.

Toyota was named the top overall brand, and a total of seven of its vehicles were named as the most valuable in their respective classes. For context, no other automaker managed to earn more than three awards..

Thanksgiving is Soon: What are you thankful for?

The 2016 Toyota Corolla was ranked at the top of the compact car segment, while the Toyota Camry led midsize cars and the Toyota Prius c led alternative fuel vehicles. The Toyota Sequoia was first among full-size utility vehicles, the Toyota FJ Cruiser first among off-road utility vehicles, and the Toyota Land Cruiser first among premium full-size utility vehicles. Finally, the Toyota Tacoma reigned supreme in the midsize pickup truck category.

It’s no surprise to see Toyota perform so well in this kind of context. Its vehicles are consistently ranked as among the most reliable in the industry, year after year. In 2016, Consumer Reports found that every Lexus model it rated had better-than-average reliability, as well as all but one Toyota model. And if a car or a brand is known to be reliable, it will tend to hold its value better than cars that prospective customers know will need more frequent maintenance.
