Introduction
Unfortunately, the Toyota FJ Cruiser has reached the end of its production run with the 2014 model year, but while it was here, the FJ Cruiser provided adventurers with a retro-style, off-roading machine that was unlike anything else on the road. In production for less than a decade, enthusiasts had a brief love affair with FJ Cruiser, but Toyota is ensuring it goes out with bang through the introduction of special edition models.
Early History
The Toyota FJ Cruiser was initially introduced in 2003 as a concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show, and overwhelming consumer response would turn the FJ Cruiser into a production model just two years later in 2005.
Based of Toyota’s earlier FJ40 of the 1980s and before, the FJ Cruiser was to be an off-road capable SUV with a retro design, and Toyota nailed it, as off-roading communities across the country embraced the FJ Cruiser as easily as its predecessor.
Recent History
On November 5, 2013, Toyota announced that the 2014 model year would mark the final installment of the FJ Cruiser, but just before enthusiasts could weep over its departure, the Japanese automaker unveiled the 2014 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Ultimate Edition. The special edition Cruiser pays tribute to its inspiration – the FJ40 – and promises to be the most capable FJ Cruiser to date.
