The Highlander Hybrid was recognized as an excellent winter commuter, getting 27 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway for a combined fuel rating of 28 mpg. The only other automaker to feature more than once on the list was Subaru. The Forester 2.5i Premium was named a great vehicle for a short commute, with 24 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined. And the Subaru Impreza Premium was named a top vehicle for a winter commute, with 28 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined.
It’s not surprising that two of the three Toyota vehicles named were hybrid models. After all, when you’re slogging through traffic to work every day, the last thing you want to worry about is running out of gas. Even with increased demand for larger trucks and SUVs, it’s pretty safe to say that the hybrid vehicle is here to stay.
