Would it come as a surprise to learn that the most valuable automotive brand in the entire world is Toyota? Well, it shouldn’t.

Despite being worth nearly 2% less than its assumed value for 2014, Toyota ranked 30th on BrandZ’s Top 100 Most Valuable Brands (.pdf) list, beating out titans of industry including Budweiser, Samsung, eBay, Pepsi, and PayPal.

More importantly, it ranked as the most valuable automotive brand with an assumed brand value of $28.9 billion, beating BMW’s brand value by more than $2.5 billion and Mercedes by more than $7 billion. Impressively enough, Toyota’s brand worth is assumed to be no less than $15 billion greater than all other automotive brands, and it is worth $2.5 billion more than Honda and Ford combined.

Toyota’s status as the most valuable automotive brand should come as little shock, not only considering the ubiquity of its vehicles, but provided that it has been named BrandZ’s most valuable automotive brand for eight of the past 10 years.

On the whole, the value of the automobile industry was up 3% from 2014, which is relatively small potatoes compared to 24% growth for the retail industry, 21% growth for the insurance industry, and 8% growth for the soft drink industry.
