Toyota North American Production Reaches Nearly 2 Million in 2014
The Corolla is one of 12 vehicles built by Toyota in North America
2014 was quite the year for Toyota. The automaker managed to hold onto its title as the industry’s #1 retail brand thanks to incredible sales of 2,373,771, as well as debuting a refreshed Camry to wide applause. Now, we’re learning that Toyota North American production had a record-breaking year in 2014 with a total of 1,985,501 vehicles built. This was a 7% increase over 2013 North American production, and the most vehicles the Japanese automaker has ever built in the continent in a single year.
“Market growth, strong demand and customers’ loyalty allows us to focus on building cars and trucks that are relevant today and in the future,” remarked Osamu “Simon” Nagata, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. “While last year’s production is a historic record, what we strive for is exceeding customers’ expectations.”
The RAV4 is also built in North America
This increased production was a result of high demand for vehicles built in North America, including the Camry, Corolla, Sienna, Tundra, Tacoma, Avalon, Highlander, Matrix, Sequoia, RAV4, and Venza. Additionally, Toyota builds the Lexus RX350 in North America. In 2015, production is projected to rise even more, thanks to increased demand for pickups and SUVs like the Tundra, Tacoma, and Highlander. In order to keep up with this demand, Toyota is investing millions of dollars in its plants in Princeton, Indiana, and Baja California, Mexico.
