Toyota November Sales Climb Thanks to Light Trucks

November was quite the month for Toyota. At the beginning of the month, the automaker showcased a couple of remarkable vehicles at SEMA—the Sleeper Camry and the Tim Love Tundra. But that was just the beginning. As the month closed, Toyota reported a 2.3% increase in sales over November of 2013, thanks largely in part to the automaker’s light truck division.

Toyota November sales totaled 155,874 units. These numbers included a 53% increase in 4Runner sales, a 16.7% increase in Highlander sales, and a record November for the RAV4 with sales totaling 21,108. Additionally, the Corolla sold over 25,000 units for a 14.2% increase, and the Camry sold close to 29,000 units.

The automaker’s success in the relatively short month was thanks largely in part to dealers offering more aggressive sales over Thanksgiving weekend. Said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager, “Auto industry sales during Thanksgiving weekend were even better than expected. Consumer demand for light trucks continues unabated and Toyota dealers set new November sales records for light trucks and SUVs.”

Demand for light trucks is likely thanks to a dramatic decrease in the average price of gasoline across the country. And as automakers strive for better fuel efficiency ratings in those light trucks, it’s likely that we will only see demand increase from here on out. That’s good news for Toyota, as well as the industry as a whole.
