The Toyota Camry remains a best-seller in the US

Hey, remember that time Volkswagen overtook Toyota as the world’s biggest automaker? Yeah, probably not, since this achievement was quickly overshadowed by the whole Dieselgate fiasco, and Toyota quickly took back its title as the world’s best-selling automaker. Since then, things haven’t looked great for VW, but Toyota is getting ready to be announced as 2015’s most successful global carmaker.

Toyota’s global sales from January 2015 through November 2015 totaled 9.21 million compared to Volkswagen’s 9.1 million. While VW’s total certainly isn’t shabby, the German automaker experienced sales losses following the revelation that it had been cheating emissions tests with its supposedly “clean” diesel vehicles. VW drivers tend to be very loyal, and many felt betrayed by the Dieselgate scandal.

November 2015 was the fifth consecutive month that Toyota sold more vehicles than Volkswagen around the world. Sales were up 1% from the previous year, while VW’s sales in the same period decreased by 1.7%. We’ll see if Toyota’s success continues into 2016.
