Toyota Prius Most-Searched Green Car on Yahoo! Autos
Many consider the Toyota Prius to be the ultimate green car, and with good reason. The hybrid vehicle, which first began sales in the US in 2000, has expanded its lineup to include a plug-in, a city car, and a wagon, as well as the original. It’s not unusual to see the Prius in its various forms daily on the road, and its popularity has made the Toyota Prius the most-searched green car on Yahoo! Autos, according to a list released by the automotive website.
The list of most-searched green cars consists of 12 total vehicles. Out of the 12, Toyota was the only automaker to feature twice. While the Toyota Prius Plug-In was the fifth most-searched green car, the original Prius/Prius c/Prius v topped the list. The Prius and Prius c both have excellent fuel economy ratings of 50 combined, while the larger, family-friendly Prius v posts a just-as-impressive 42 mpg combined.
Also high on the list were the Honda Civic Hybrid at number two, the Ford C-Max Hybrid at number three, and the Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid at number four. Unsurprisingly, the Tesla Model S made the list at number nine, and would surely have ranked much higher if not for its hefty price tag. The Prius, currently in its third generation, starts at just over $19,000 for the Prius c city car and tops out at $30,395 for the tricked-out Prius v Five model. The Prius Plug-In boasts 95 MPGe combined in EV mode, and retails for $29,990 for the base model, and $34,905 for the Advanced model.
