Toyota Recalls 625,000 Vehicles Due to Glitches in Hybrid Software
If you own a Prius or any other Toyota hybrid model, listen up. The Japanese automaker announced yesterday that it would be recalling 625,000 vehicles from around the globe because of a glitch in the hybrid software. Of these 625,000, 120,000 vehicles are located in North America, 160,000 in Europe, and 340,000 in Japan.
The issue has the potential of shutting down the hybrid system while the vehicle is being driven, which would result in a loss of power and cause the vehicle to stop. For obvious reasons, this isn’t a good thing, so Toyota will fix the issue before any serious accidents occur. The automaker reports that, thus far, no accidents or injuries have been reported.
The recall affects the Prius v wagon—also known as the Prius Alpha and Prius+ in other markets—as well as the Auris hybrid. The vehicles in question were sold between May 2010 and November 2014.
Toyota will contact owners of affected vehicles in the coming months. In the meantime, if you have questions, contact Toyota directly at 1-800-331-4331.
