The Toyota S-FR Racing concept

Back in October, Toyota unveiled the long-awaited S-FR sports car concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. The tiny sports car was designed to compete with the likes of the Mazda MX-5 Miata, and will likely make it to production as a Scion, slotting underneath the existing FR-S in the automaker’s lineup. Now, Toyota has unveiled an updated version—the S-FR Racing concept—that will make its official premiere at the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon in January.

The Toyota S-FR Racing concept was developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing. It features certain characteristics that are lacking on the original S-FR concept, like a front lip spoiler, rear diffuser, and rear wing. It also has a wider track, although that is the extent of what we know about this vehicle. Given its purpose as a racecar, it’ll probably have a stripped- out interior to minimize curb weight, especially given the aerodynamic additions to the exterior.

The S-FR Racing concept, along with special editions of the Voxy and Noah MPVs, will appear from January 15th-17th at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
