The 4Runner was a big seller for Toyota in July

It’s been a pretty impressive year in the world of automobile sales so far, and one automaker in particular is taking no prisoners. For the fifth consecutive month, Toyota sold over 200,000 vehicles during July, keeping its crown as America’s #1 retail brand.

In total, Toyota sold 217,181 units across its three divisions, which was up 0.6% from July 2014 on a daily selling rate basis. Toyota Division accounted, as usual, for the majority of these sales, with 187,365 units sold. That number is down slightly year-over-year, but only by 0.6%, so nothing to worry about at this point in time. The Camry kept its title as the number one selling car in America, with a total of 38,435 units sold.

“July auto sales showed no signs of slow down for the industry,” explained Bill Fay, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager. “Led by Tacoma sales, the Toyota division light trucks posted a best-ever July.”

This “best-ever July” for light trucks follows a trend for Toyota, which also saw a best-ever June, May, and April in the segment. Superstar sellers included the Highlander (up more than 12%), the 4Runner (up almost 26%), and the Tundra and Tacoma (up nearly 17% combined). This trend towards bigger, more heavy-duty vehicles is likely thanks in part to lower gasoline prices.
