Toyota Teases C-HR Crossover Ahead of Geneva Motor Show
The Geneva Motor Show is just one week away, and automaker Toyota is busy preparing itself for an exciting reveal—the production version of the long-teased C-HR concept crossover. The vehicle originally debuted in October 2014 at the Paris Motor Show, before appearing as a Scion at last fall’s LA Auto Show. Now, with Scion being absorbed into Toyota, the long-awaited production version of the C-HR concept will make its debut appearance in Geneva as a Toyota.
The C-HR concept vehicle sports 21-inch wheels, an all-black roof with a red body, and plenty of exterior graphite black accents. The styling of the concept car is decidedly unique—as is the case with many concept vehicles—but how much of its quirkiness will make it to the production Toyota C-HR remains a mystery. Toyota has provided us with a teaser image, but as with most teaser images, it doesn’t tell us too much.
When the C-HR was headed to the Scion lineup, VP Andrew Gilleland commented, “The Scion C-HR will be a stand-out vehicle for us. Its styling will lead the way, but its substance will seal the deal. It’s got amazing driving dynamics, superb functionality, and, like all Scions, premium features at an accommodating price. There’s no doubt this will be the next iconic vehicle for Scion.”
Now, with the production C-HR destined to become a Toyota, we have to wonder if the previous statement will stand. Toyota’s vehicles typically have more mainstream styling, while Scion wasn’t afraid to take design risks (just look at the first-generation xB, whose redesign was one of the reasons for Scion’s eventual downfall). It remains to be seen whether Toyota will keep the C-HR’s funky looks, or whether it will be toned down to blend in with its competition.
The Geneva Motor Show takes place March 1st – 13th, and we’ll be sure to have photos of the production C-HR crossover as soon as they’re available.
