Toyota to Move Lexus Parts Distribution to Orlando
It seems like Toyota is set on moving its operations all over the place. The Japanese automaker is currently in the process of moving its North American operations from Torrance, California, to Plano, Texas. And, apparently, it’s also going to move its Lexus parts distribution center from Jacksonville to Orlando, Florida. Probably to be nearer Walt Disney World.
The nine-year lease is on a 96,924-square-foot space located in Orlando’s Bent Oak Industrial Park’s Building 100. That’s about 16.5 miles, or 31 minutes, away from Disney World, according to Google Maps. The building is already half occupied by Bodek & Rhodes Inc., a Philadelphia-based national apparel distributor.
While the Disney World reasoning is fairly solid (or the fact that Lexus wants its parts to be near all the old people tootling around in their Lexuses in Orlando), the actual reason for the move is that Toyota’s other group within the current building in Jacksonville is expanding and needs the space.
Toyota expects to make the move this summer. There’s no word yet on whether or not the automaker will relocate associates from Jacksonville, or if this will open up new job opportunities in Orlando.
