Toyota TRD Pro Lineup Officially on Its Way
A YouTube video has been floating around recently that teased what appeared to be Toyota Racing Development (TRD) variants of three of the Japanese automaker’s more capable vehicles, but we are learning today that those vehicles are officially on their way to dealerships.
The Toyota TRD Pro lineup features upgraded versions of the Toyota Tundra, Tacoma, and 4Runner that have been modified for elite off-road performance. The TRD enhancements include Blistein shocks with remote reservoirs, TRD-tuned front springs, a front skid plate, and bold TRD badging throughout with a new front grille.
“The TRD Pro Series is the most-advanced yet in a long line of TRD packages for Toyota trucks that dates back to 1998 when the first Off-Road package was introduced for Tacoma,” according to Toyota’s press release.
Performance figures for the TRD Pro lineup have yet to be released, but they will be powered by an in-house engine similar to those powertrains that have propelled Toyota racing to championships around the world, including in the Baja 500 and 1000 endurance races.
The Toyota TRD Pro trucks were revealed this past week at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, and The News Wheel was on hand to see just what they are capable of. Expect more details as the week roars along.
