Auto enthusiasts everywhere are heading to Chicago as we speak in order to prepare for the first of the Chicago Auto Show’s press days tomorrow. And while automakers are gearing up to start revealing concepts, new models, and custom vehicles left, right, and center, they’re also thinking about what they can do for the Chicago community while they’re in town. For Toyota, that thing is helping underprivileged families stay warm this winter by donating winter boots to the homeless.

Chicago has been having a particularly cold winter, complete with plenty of lake effect snow, and it’s taking a toll on homeless families. Through the Toyota Walk In My Boots campaign, residents of Chicago’s Salvation Army Evangeline Booth Lodge will receive new insulated winter boots and socks to help get them through the remainder of the cold season.

Toyota chose boots rather than coats to give away simply because so many organizations concentrate on handing out coats during winter, leaving feet susceptible to things like frostbite. On top of donating boots and socks, Toyota is donating $15,000 to The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division to help them continue to provide support for Chicago’s homeless families through the winter and beyond. The automaker will present the check to the Salvation Army this Saturday, February 14th, at the Evangeline Booth Lodge, while providing a “down-home” lunch buffet for residents.
