Two FCA US Models Receive 2016 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating

When it comes to safety, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) knows what it’s talking about. That’s why it comes as no surprise that the IIHS has honored the Chrysler 200 and Fiat 500X with its highest safety rating of Top Safety Pick+.
This is the second year in a row these two vehicles have earned this distinction—and it’s all thanks to models’ available Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology.
“These results are a clear indication of where we’re headed,” said Mike Dahl, Head of Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance for FCA-North America. “That this advanced technology is available on these two distinctly different vehicles demonstrates our commitment to continue to incorporate AEB into our vehicle fleet.”
Fiat Chrysler is the carmaker in the industry that offers the AEB technology in the most segments. It is available on eight vehicles total, spanning five segments. Here’s a list of those vehicles and their segments:
- Dodge Durango (Full-size SUV)
- Jeep Grand Cherokee (Mid-size SUV)
- Jeep Cherokee (Mid-size SUV)
- Jeep Renegade (Small SUV/Crossover)
- Fiat 500X (Small SUV/Crossover)
- Chrysler 200 (Mid-size sedan)
- Chrysler 300 (Full-size sedan)
- Dodge Charger (Full-size sedan)
This technology is so effective that the IIHS actually gave the Chrysler 200’s system, which is known as Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, its rating of “superior.” In the Fiat 500X, which calls it Forward Collision Warning-Plus, the system received an “advanced” rating.
Despite this advanced technology, both the Chrysler 200 and Fiat 500X come with affordable starting prices of $31,550 and $28,605 respectively.
