It’s been a rough ride for Uber in the UK. Just days after triumphantly announcing that it would be starting a sweeping electric and hybrid vehicle initiative in the UK, starting in London, to include powertrain mandates and driver incentives, the capital city announced it was dumping Uber (by rejecting the renewal of its license to operate in the city), because “Uber’s approach and conduct demonstrate a lack of corporate responsibility.”

The More You Know: Which is better, buying or leasing?

Now, Dara Khrowshahi, the brand new CEO of Uber, has sent his reply, in the form of an open letter to the Evening Standard. He also tweeted the letter out, as follows.

If, for whatever reason, you can’t read the letter (or didn’t feel like it), here is the much-abridged version.

Cleaning Up: Make your pre-winter once-over easier with these tips

Khosrowshahi opens by thanking Londoners for their support and stories of how they use the app, then goes on to say that Uber is a revolutionary company but that “we’ve got things wrong along the way.” He adds, “On behalf of everyone at Uber globally, I apologise for the mistakes we’ve made.”

The new CEO then says that they will appeal this decision, points out the good that the company has done in London, and promises that things will be different now that a new sheriff is in town (and that the company has been raked over the coals multiple times over various scandals, but Khrosrowshahi didn’t add that part).

So, if nothing else, Uber is at least offering the Transport for London office one statement: “Take me back, I promise things will be different this time.”
