The Ukrainian police force will have 651 new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs

One country has decided to turn its police force into an eco-friendly organization, and it’s probably not the country you think—it’s the Ukraine. Earlier this month, the Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, announced that 651 Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrids were ordered to replace the police force’s dated VAV and UAZ Russian-made police vehicles. These Outlander PHEV models will arrive sometime soon, helping the fleet better meet the Kyoto Protocol, which is an international treaty that encourages countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In a statement cited by InsideEVs, Avakov stated, “So, gentleman, you will receive 651 new and unique, modern, powerful, eco-friendly hybrid crossover Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The people of Ukraine hope that you will be worthy of this innovation! Serve with honor.”

While this is great and cool and yay for the Ukrainian police becoming eco-friendlier, we do have one really, really big question.

Who decided to add that random one vehicle instead of keeping the order at 650?!

Okay, that question is probably not as important as we thought it was, but still—we’re curious about that decision.

Anyways, the Outlander PHEV was recently refreshed for the 2016 model year, making it a great green option for European consumers. It’s currently breaking all kinds of sales records in European countries, which is why it actually comes as no surprise that the Ukraine feels the plug-in hybrid will be a good fit for its police fleet.
