One of only 300 original 1953 Corvettes ever made

America’s Sports Car” was born over half a century ago with the 1953 Corvette. In its first production year, the Chevy Corvette looked (and accelerated) nothing like the Vettes of today: it featured a rounder design and was powered by a mere 150-horsepower 3.8-liter inline-6 engine.

But even though its design and power should disappoint a modern-day Corvette connoisseur, original 1953 Corvettes are some of the most collectible classic cars on the planet—not just because they were first, but because they were limited. Only 300 of the 1953 model year Chevy Corvettes were ever produced, and one of them is going to be auctioned at Mecum in Las Vegas from February 27th through the 28th.

The car still starts and has the original Polo White exterior and Sportsman Red interior, making it a priceless collector’s item. But despite its pricelessness, Mecum is still trying to set a price on it, with the current estimate ranging from $175,000 to $225,000.

If you’ve got that kind of money—and a hankering for one of the first Corvettes ever made—get thee to Sin City.
