Upcoming Smithsonian TV Series Preview: The Construction of ‘Supercar Superbuild’

Behind-the-scenes factory tours are a fantastic way to grow your appreciation for the automotive manufacturing process and the cars being produced. Plus, for many people, being present for the birth of a new car is as awe-inspiring as a child being born–one that’s a lot better looking when it first arrives.

Because most of us won’t have the opportunity in our lives to see a supercar like a Maserati or Aston Martin as it’s being built, the Smithsonian Channel has documented the artistic and engineering challenges behind some of the world’s most spectacular automobiles.

In a new four-part series titled Supercar Superbuild, viewers are given an inside look at the craftsmanship that goes into making a high-end automobile. By documenting the building process of Maserati, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Aston Martin, the Smithsonian Channel will give auto enthusiasts new insight into legendary brands.

Supercar Superbuild: Maserati

Our first look at a rare, beautiful piece of machinery will be the construction of a Maserati as the Italian brand works on is new mid-size sedan, the Ghibli. The Supercar Superbuild premiere chronicles the design behind the “everyday use” Ghibli sedan which is intended to broaden the customer base of the highly-lauded Maserati company. Will this new car grow sales ten-fold?

Supercar Superbuild: Lamborghini

The unique stories behind fantastical creations continues with Lamborghini. Part two of Supercar Superbuild captures the demanding deadlines, engineering challenges, and high-stakes risks behind the production of the Huracàn, the car set to fill the vacancy left by Lamborghini’s Gallardo.

Supercar Superbuild: Bentley Continental

The passion of the Bentley production team is the focus of the third installment. The creators of the Continental GT V8 S share the obstacles they’re facing with making a faster, more efficient model with fewer cylinders.

Supercar Superbuild: Aston Martin

The last bastion of automotive independence, Aston Martin has a lot riding on its new V12 Vantage S. Watch the final fourth episode to learn how this supercar is supposed to keep the automaker in business and fend off is competitors.
