US Dealerships Will Not Stock the 2018 Volvo V90 Wagon
At last year’s Detroit Auto Show, the Volvo XC90 SUV was honored as the 2016 North American Truck of the Year. Fast forward one year later and Volvo is back in Detroit, but this time the automaker is showcasing its new V90 station wagon.
The design of the V90 is quite similar to the S90 sedan. Everything from the bold front grille to the Thor’s Hammer headlights are exactly the same, but the V90 offers more space and versatility thanks to its extended rear roofline. The V90 also offers the same powertrain choices as the S90 sedan. A 250-horsepower engine comes with the front-wheel drive model, while a more powerful 316-horsepower motor comes with the all-wheel drive wagon.
One department in which the V90 and S90 differ is how they’re sold in the United States. While the S90 sedan is available at Volvo dealer lots across the country, the V90 has to be specially ordered via Volvo’s Online Concierge or through an Overseas Delivery program. With Volvo’s Online Concierge, consumers can visit their local Volvo dealer, where a representative will help them order the vehicle online with the specific features they would like. In contrast, with the Overseas Delivery option each buyer can choose the V90’s color, engine, interior, and trim, and then fly overseas to pick up the V90 at the factory in Torslanda Sweden. That’s thanks to the two paid airline tickets and hotel accommodations that come with Overseas Delivery option.
“The V90 is a fantastic vehicle for the true wagon enthusiast. As we now introduce the most luxurious wagon ever, we choose to do so giving our customers a range of personalized customer order production alternatives like the Volvo online concierge and Overseas Delivery,” said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “This way we provide the fullest range of options to wagon lovers.”
The 2018 Volvo V90 is currently on display alongside the Volvo XC90 and S90 at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. This is the first time that all three Volvo 90 series models have been shown together in North America. Volvo will be announcing price and trim details for its newest wagon in February, 2017.
