The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer was recently named the Best Estate Car at the 2016 Telegraph Cars Awards and the Compact Family Car of the Year at the Auto Express New Car Awards 2016, both in the same week. At this point, the Vauxhall Astra winning awards for being great is the equivalent of the sun coming up on Tuesday, but nonetheless, the latest prize is quite the achievement.

The team at the Telegraph determined that the UK-built Sports Tourer had a leg up on both its competition and the previous-generation model thanks to more internal storage and exceptional performance.

“The new Astra is at its best in estate guise, which gives a useful boost in boot space to go with its other winning attributes,” the judges noted, adding that the Astra’s available engine range “is one of the strongest out there.”

The Vauxhall Astra is offered with a number of powerful and fuel efficient petrol and diesel engines that are lighter and stronger than previous offerings.

“The Astra has been very well-received and it’s great news that the new model has been recognized yet again, this time at the Telegraph Cars Awards,” said Rory Harvey, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director.

The judges behind the Auto Express New Car Awards praised the Astra for many of the same reasons, as well as its value, technology, and a perceived “real-world appeal.”

“The Astra has excelled once again,” said Harvey. “It’s great to see how well-received the Astra has been so far and we are pleased that the Astra is being recognized for the hard work that has gone into making this model the best yet.”

Since hitting the market in late 2015, the Astra has cleaned up on the awards circuit. Thus far, the Astra has been named European Car of the Year, the What Car? Award-winner for Family Cars, the Autocar “Game-Changer” award-winner, and Fleet News Awards’ Lower Medium category champion.
