Denis Chick, Vauxhall Director of Communications

Vauxhall Director of Communications Denis Chick was recently honored by Newspress with its Lifetime Achievement Award. The second annual Newspress Awards, held in March, recognized individuals and publications considered excellent in the field of automotive journalism.

Chick, who has spent 15 years with General Motors and more than a half-century in the automotive industry, began his career in 1965 as an apprentice for The Rover Company. He eventually worked his way up through engineering roles into a position in Product Planning and Marketing, joining the PR team in 1985.

In 1994, Chick became the Director of Product Communications for The Rover Group, and he would stay in that role until his departure from the company in 2000. After a two-year stint with Trafficmaster, Chick became the PR and Marketing Manager for GM Daewoo UK, which ultimately expanded to encompass all GM brands sold in the United Kingdom.

He would later become the Director of Communications for Vauxhall in 2009, and he has dutifully remained in that position ever since. To hear Chick tell it, it is a role that he has no intentions of leaving anytime soon.

“I have had such a privileged career and have been able to see the world, building long-term relationships with some fantastic people along the way,” said Chick. “I’ve launched many new cars and seen numerous crises come and go in my time, so I’m well equipped for whatever the industry may throw at me. Every minute has been enjoyable, but I think I have a few years left in me yet.”
