Vauxhall Sponsors Luton Juniors Football Tournament
Vauxhall recently brought together football teams from 29 different schools in order to participate in a miniaturized version of the European Championships.
The event was sponsored by Vauxhall, Arriva, and the White Ribbon Campaign and organized by Luton Borough Council’s Strategic Community Services Department, Luton Community Safety Partnership, Bedfordshire Police, School Games, and Luton Town Football Club. Co-op and Tesco also participated in the event by providing water and fruit to players and spectators. Vauxhall’s contribution included providing each team with its own uniquely-colored kit.

“It was a wonderful day seeing the young people together. They were like mini finalists in the Euro 16 tournament,” said Cherie Denton, Vauxhall’s Community Coordinator.
Nineteen schools took part, and each team represented a European team participating in the Euro. The tournament took place at the 3G pitches at Lea Manor Recreation Centre at Marsh Farm. The eventual semi-finalists were Hillborough (representing Czech Republic), Pirton Hill (representing France), Ferrars (representing Hungary), and Maidenhall (representing Spain). Hillborough and Pirton Hill met in the final, with the former winning 4-3 on PK.
Dallow (representing Turkey) won the White Ribbon Campaign’s “Fair Play” trophy for having the most positive attitude and exemplary behavior throughout the day.
A total of 230 children participated in the tournament, as well as numerous parents, teachers, and community members. Prior to the tournament, workshops were conducted to teach 290 students the consequences of bullying and children were taught proper football skills and the importance of being good representatives by Luton Town FC.
