Easter is coming, and it is a holiday that typically involves more traveling than you might think. 16 million drivers are expected to take to the roads in Great Britain for trips of varying lengths, which can lead to a great deal of boredom for kids and frustration for parents.

Vauxhall is looking to make matter just a bit easier with a new study that looks at how trips in the car with kids tend to go, and the easiest ways to keep the little ones entertained.

The study first takes assessment of preparing for a trip, finding that the average time it takes for parents with children under the age of nine into the family vehicle is about 32 minutes. If you have more than one child, expect that time to be even greater. Once kids and parents are in the car, 59% say that they distract their children from the rigors of the road with a game of Eye Spy, 55% say the utilize sing-alongs, and 50% say they lend their children smartphones or tablets to keep them distracted.

Another popular method is popping on an audiobook to take the kids’ minds off of the task at hand. To help propagate this trick, Vauxhall teamed with author Tracey Corderoy and broadcaster Edith Bowman on a series of videos that feature the latter narrating stories written by the latter.

The stories in question are Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam, Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam: The Cat Burglar, and Hubble Bubble Granny Trouble, all of which were published by Nosy Crow. The videos are available as audio or video downloads, or they can be streamed through OnStar.
