2017 Chevy Camaro 1LE at Nurburgring spy shots

The 2016 Camaro isn’t even in dealerships yet, and already agents of automotive espionage are hard at work obtaining spy shots of 2017 models.

One such spy is a YouTube user named cvdzijden, who captured this video of a camouflaged Vette being tested on the Nurburgring in Germany, and driven out in traffic during some rainy weather.

Take a look:

The vehicle here looks a lot like the new sixth-gen Camaro SS, but is differentiated by a new front splitter, a different rear spoiler, and wider rear tires. CamaroSix says its sources are calling it the 2017 Camaro 1LE, although that hasn’t been confirmed.

It’s anticipated that the 1LE will share the SS model’s 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine. The most powerful motor ever put in a Camaro SS, it yields 455 horsepower, can run the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds at 116 mph, and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds.

We expect Chevy to drop that powertrain into the 1LE, cover it with a blacked-out hood, and slap a price tag around $38,000—$39,000 on it. Until General Motors provides some sort of confirmation, though, that’s all just speculation.
