Spencer Stone’s tale of heroism is a quintessential American one: it took a lot of bravery and a little bit of American muscle. His reward, appropriately enough, was a new American muscle car.

Stone, a member of the United States Air Force, was on a train with two friends traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. They had first-class seats but like many Americans abroad, couldn’t figure out the nuances of the train system, so they sat elsewhere. After the train left, they moved cabins, inching closer to danger.

A gunman carrying enough ammo for a mass shooting tragedy opened fire. The three, along with two other passengers, tackled the gunman, an Islamic militant, and disarmed him.

Stone nearly lost a thumb and had to keep his arm in a sling after the attacks.

Stone told the story himself on Jimmmy Kimmel Live last night, where he received a well-deserved standing ovation for his heroism:

The show’s producers knew Stone is a huge Golden State Warriors fan, so they arranged for Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson to show up with some swag. The highlight? A brand new 2016 Chevy Camaro SS convertible, which Kimmel says was provided by the good people at Chevrolet.

It’s manual, which Klay Thompson apparently doesn’t know how to drive. But fortunately, Stone both knows how to drive a stick and has full usage of his right arm, which wasn’t damaged in the incident.

“This way, you never have to get on a train again in your life,” Kimmel told Stone.
