Continuing the apparent “dad” theme of 2015 Super Bowl commercials, Toyota featured an ad portraying the relationship between Team Toyota athlete-slash-Paralympic medalist, Amy Purdy, and her beloved father. Purdy has been a Toyota ambassador since 2012, when she and 18 other snowboarders joined Team Toyota, and since then has helped raise both money and awareness for Adaptive Action Sports (AAS), which helps encourage disabled children, young adults, and veterans to take an interest in snowboarding and other sports.

As you can imagine, Amy Purdy is quite the inspiring young woman. She featured in the main Toyota Super Bowl commercial—How Great I Am—along with the soulful voice of Muhammad Ali, which showed her running, snowboarding, and dancing, all on her two prosthetic legs. But she also featured in another commercial—Amy Purdy and her Bold Dad—which showed the effect Purdy’s dad had on her as she was growing up.

Stef Purdy was told by doctors when his daughter was just little that she only had a 2% chance of survival, and that she would need both legs and kidneys removed in order to live. Stef supported Amy through her double amputation, and donated his own kidney to help her live. It’s clear that their relationship is one of the things that spurred Amy onto become the incredible athlete and role model she is today.

Other Toyota Super Bowl commercials included How Great I Am, and My Bold Dad.
