What was once an engine plant facility in Flint, Michigan, that closed down back in 1999 is now in the process of being turned into an entirely new facility to benefit GM’s production. The new facility marks a $600 million investment by General Motors into Michigan’s economy and will serve as a paint shop.

Reportedly, exterior work on the Flint paint facility will be completed next month or in January of next year. Interior work will take longer, however, with the team wrapping things up in early 2016.

No new jobs will be created. Workers in the paint shop at the Flint assembly plant will just relocate to the paint plant.

“GM’s investment in the new paint shop for the Flint Assembly plant is an indication that the company is here to stay for the long term in that south Flint complex,” said Flint Mayor, Dayne Walling. “GM is the city’s largest employer and having and maintaining the industrial tax base is an important benefit for the community.”
