Honda Civic Type R vs CBR1000RR Fireblade SP

The 306 horsepower European Honda Civic Type R has a top speed of 168 mph, making it the fastest road car that the Japanese automaker makes (a title it will continue to hold until the Acura NSX hits dealerships, so, probably for a while…)

The CBR1000RR Fireblade SP sportbike, meanwhile, is the fastest road bike that Honda produces.

Auto Express had the bright idea of pitting the two vehicles against one another, and the results were unsurprisingly awesome. Take a look:

The Type R is piloted by Honda Yuasa Racing driver Matt Neal and the Fireblade is ridden by Honda British Superbike racer Dan Linfoot, meaning it’s not just a match-up of Honda vs. Honda, but also a competition between the British Touring Car Championship series and the British Superbike Championship series.

It’s also a battle of youth vs. age, as Neal notes that he’s the older driver, but he still promises to win it for “the honor of the four-wheel community.” Still, despite a ten-second head start, Neal and the Type R were beaten by Linfoot’s Fireblade.

But, as host Mat Watson notes, the outcome shouldn’t matter too much for Honda fans, because at the end of the day, “[their] team won.”
