The MVP of Super Bowl 50 has already been determined: the 2017 Hyundai Elantra. As the star of four commercials to air during February 7th‘s big game, the next-generation compact sedan will be at the front of Hyundai’s lineup all evening.

One of the ads running during the Broncos-Panthers showdown (specifically in the first quarter) depicts a group of hikers in the forest who are outrunning a menacing presence. What is this dangerous force that threatens their lives?

If we said “talking bears,” would you believe us?

Talking Bears Are No Match for Hyundai’s Remote Start Tech

The 30-second television spot opens in a remote forest overcast by fog and shadows. A woman screams, and bodies are seen scrambling through the trees. Dark forms follow behind the terrified hikers as they struggle to stay ahead of their attackers. At the last moment, one of the men uses his smartwatch to tell his 2017 Hyundai Elantra to start itself. The three people hop into the sedan and drive off, barely evading their furry, obviously green-screened attackers.

Surprisingly, the bears are less dangerous than they appear. While one bear was a vegan who was craving eating people on his “cheat day,” the other only wanted to “give them a hug.” However, both are too distracted by Hyundai’s voice-activated Blue Link Remote Start to think about pursuing the humans any further.

How plausible is it that you’ll be on the run from a bear and need to leap into your Elantra at a moment’s notice? Not very.  But it’s an accurate emotional portrayal of those times when you’re in a hurry and can’t wait around for your car to start. Because, apparently, your life may depend on it.

The Hyundai Super Bowl commercial was directed by Aaron Stoller, who has created a number of funny commercials for other products.
