[VIDEO] This Skyline-Powered Nissan Patrol is the Best Engine Swap
The R22 and R32 Nissan Skyline were two of those many awesome Japanese sports cars that were never sold in the United States, and their engines are capable of insane power in the hands of tuners. The folks at Bijou Motorsport decided it would be fun to drop that engine in a Nissan Patrol 4×4 with awesome results. Watch the SUV terrorize a peaceful field of sunflowers below:
The engine is a 2.5-liter RB25DET inline six-cylinder with a turbocharger, which offered 245 horsepower from the factory. It seems apparent that the one in this Patrol has a little more than that. The engine was originally found in the R32 Skyline GTS-4 and R34 Skyline GT-T, which had all-wheel drive like the more powerful, twin-turbocharged GT-R version.
The fourth-generation Nissan Patrol that’s the beneficiary of this particular motor swap was made somewhere between 1987 and 1997 and offered a 3.0-liter version of the engine, the RS30S, so the swap probably didn’t take too much extra effort. The RS30S only put out about 134 horsepower, so the Skyline engine must have been a vast improvement.
This video shows how auto enthusiasts often use their skills to make cars that the manufacturer should have offered from the factory. GM loves to put Corvette engines in other vehicles, and Nissan recently tried it by dropping a GT-R engine in a Nissan Juke. Sometimes, however, it takes a creative mechanic to fill in the gaps. What’s the best engine swap you’ve ever seen?
