Viking Lawnmower with Corvette Engine Hits 133 MPH

If you can put a Corvette engine into a mobile bathroom, what can’t you put it into?

If you just answered “lawnmower,” you clearly haven’t been following the exploits of Norwegian driver Pekka Lundefaret, who just set a new world record in a Viking T6 lawnmower that was equipped with a 408-horsepower LS-Series V8 engine taken from a C6 Corvette.

It’s a marriage of two very dissimilar vehicles that would probably upset Vette purists, and would definitely upset lawnmower purists (especially loyal Mason 1500 driver Hank Hill), but which enabled Lundefaret to reach a top speed of 133.5 mph, shattering the previous record for fastest lawnmower, which stood at 117 mph.

Take a look:

Believe it or not, the best part of this video isn’t watching a lawnmower nearly hit 134 mph—it’s watching Lundefaret and his cohorts rejoice afterwards as if they’ve just set a new land speed record.

“I can’t believe that we managed to set this world record despite less-than-ideal weather conditions,” Lundefaret said in his native tongue. “I would like to thank everyone who supported this crazy idea.”

In addition to its Corvette powertrain, the heavily modified lawnmower also features wheels taken from a Formula 3 car. But it is still able to cut grass, meaning it now officially holds the Guinness World Record for fastest lawnmower.

“Today we are proud to have the world’s fastest lawnmower,” said Viking marketing manager Paul Virik Nilsen. “It was an exciting day because of the weather, but Pekka and the rest of the gang did a great job. This is going to get attention worldwide.”
